Detoxification during menstruation

Doctors and medical professionals generally advise against commercial detoxification during pregnancy or menstruation. There are many warnings that are given when a person is “normal”, but they can be even worse if they are pregnant or in their menstrual cycle. There is always the natural, and much healthier kind of detox that is recommended as an alternative, but even these are not recommended right now.

When your period begins, and throughout the week, your body is in a state of ‘natural detoxification’ as it gets rid of tissue it does not need. As this happens, the lining of the uterus breaks down and dissolves and slowly moves out of your body. Depending on the woman, there may be several different ways the body will react; cramps, dizziness, fatigue, etc.

If you choose to try a detox at this stage, you are trying to get rid of the things it doesn’t need from your body. In other words, do what you are already doing! Women who detoxify during menstruation may experience more severe cramps and pain, increased weakness and fatigue, and other symptoms that they normally would not have.

The only detox you should do during your menstrual cycle is the “natural” type of detox and then just the nutritional aspect of it. There are several things that you can consume naturally that are beneficial and can even help reduce or even eliminate the discomfort of menstruation.

Some foods that can give your body the ‘fuel’ it needs for its natural detoxification are generally raw fruits and vegetables, but there are some supplements that can help as well. Make sure to increase your intake of foods high in calcium such as milk, yogurt, and green leafy vegetables. Keep in mind that chamomile and peppermint teas are also a good option that not only helps to detoxify your body naturally, but can also reduce the unpleasant symptoms of menstruation.

Also, reducing your salt, sugar, and caffeine intake during the week before your period can help prevent cramps. You may also want to take vitamin B complex and vitamin B6. If you use supplements, be sure to take only the recommended dose and DO NOT exceed more than 100 mg of B6 per day. Remember, you may experience more adverse symptoms if you detoxify during your period. So think very seriously about this, please!
