You are the master of your dog

During ancient times, now domesticated dogs used to travel in packs with one leader followed by all. This trait is still adapted by any dog, from the huge Great Dane to a tiny Chihuahua teacup.

This is exactly what you want to be when it comes to the relationship between you and your dog: you are the leader and your dog is the follower. By being able to set this, it will be easier for you to train your dog to follow you.

Your dog will recognize you as his master only if you act like one. That means you don’t give in to their demands so easily, with nothing in return.

For example, your dog may be asking you for food every time you are at the dinner table. Instead of giving him leftovers, give him a firm “No” and take him where he should be. Only when he stays there without following you back to the table should you give him a prize.

By making him understand that the firm “No” means that he cannot do what he pleases without his approval, he will understand that he is the subordinate of his pack, in this case you are the other “dog” of the pack.

Once you have established that you are the leader, training becomes easier and more progressive. You don’t need to use treats for an extended period because dogs are loyal and loyal to their pack leaders, and they follow their orders no matter how crazy they are.
