Wheelstand Pro G27 review

It has pestered virtual brokers for years. It has fueled new markets like the gaming seat and sparked creative interpretations like the ironing board solution. Because the truth is, console gamers have never been able to use a steering wheel with their consoles because the living room would not allow for proper steering wheel setup. But now there is a company from Poland that claims to have the answer and it is called Wheelstand Pro.

Because the description mentioned above fit my bill, I decided to go for this solution. It had enjoyed rave reviews and with the release of exciting new racing games, I really needed a stable solution that can be easily moved when not in use.

So I placed my order on the wheelstandpro.com website. I paid and left my address, in a couple of days my order had been paid and accepted. The ordering process was literally painless. The friendly people behind the website helped me whenever I had questions and kept me updated on all the progress.

I was even more surprised when my order arrived at my doorstep just 5 days after the order, a huge 7.6kg package straight from the ninth largest country in Europe, yes I used Wikipedia on that. The shipment also included a weekend, so technically the package could have arrived even earlier.

The stall was perfectly packed and, aside from a few marks on the closet, it left nothing to think about. So the purchase was easy and painless, as was the shipping, but what about the product?

Set up

I’m not a very practical person, and to be honest I wasn’t sure at first how to attach the metal shifter plate to the main plate. But after watching a video and taking a longer look at the manual, everything went smoothly and well. The only problem you may face is connecting the pedals to the mount as it requires access to the back of the mount. I recommend doing this before attaching the wheel, because it is easier to flip the bracket this way.

The Wheelstand pro comes with almost all the equipment you need for setup. It comes with bolts, an Allen wrench, cable management cables, gearshift plate, and a premium looking manual. The only thing you need to find is a Philips (cross) screwdriver.

After everything was ready and done, the stand looked clean and stable. There was no movement to discover in the pedals, the steering wheel, or the gear stick. In fact, the only problem I had was cable management, because the Logitech G27 has a lot of cables and it’s difficult to place them all neatly. However, I finally managed to get it right.

Another problem was the height control. The stand can be adjusted to each height, but at its highest point it is still a little less than 1 meter. So make sure you have a low chair, bench, or similar.

It goes without saying that support works best when it gives you the proper ground to stand on. So make sure you have a good space in your room when in use.

Careers

To prove this, I appeared in F1 2010. This new title from Codemasters has a great force response and is the perfect candidate to test the robustness of the design. Before I do this though, I have to say that I’m generally a very fluent driver so keep that in mind.

The Pro wheel stand performed very well during my tests. In fact, it was so good that I completely forgot about its existence. I was spinning on laps, constantly and improving, and I NEVER felt anything from the grandstand that would interfere with the race. Although as a joke I should mention that the mount does vibrate a bit during heavy FFB moments, causing the loose plastic shifter bolts to make an annoying noise. Better take those off.

To be honest, that was the testing part of the review. It is extremely strong and stable, perfect for even the most intense races.

Practical

You can consider this stand not only for its quality but also for practical reasons. In that case, I can assure you that this position does the job. Even with the wheel attached, it is not too heavy or too big to move. And the adjustability means it can be easily folded, though the brake pedal prevents the mount from laying flat.

Unfortunately, there is a sweet spot with the screws. They should be tight enough to prevent the post from moving, but not too tight because otherwise the lever cannot be fully closed. Until you find this balance, on-the-fly adjustments may take longer than you expected.

Conclution

The Wheelstand Pro is an amazing product. It is very resistant and easy to install. During the race, you will completely forget about your $ 130 purchase, and that’s a good thing. However, it is not small / adjustable enough to be completely out of sight. And initially it is difficult to find the right balance between tightening the bolts too tight or too loose. But the Wheelstand Pro is just fantastic and is recommended to anyone looking for a product to hold the wheel.
