The problem with “supposed” experts!

Home security is not about alarm systems. It’s not about locks. Home security is about the personal protection that investments in physical and electronic products and services can provide.

You have to ask yourself: “Is my home/office safe?”. “Are my family/colleagues protected?”

When you determine the answer to those questions, it’s easy to get the right solutions that will give you peace of mind.

Having personally sold, installed, designed, maintained, and repaired many electronic and physical security products in various countries and cultures around the world, I have first-hand knowledge of the situations of a broad cross-section of people.

The main underlying attitude towards security products is that alarm systems are the perceived best protection.

This is a fallacy!

Alarm systems are not and have never been a security protection device. Alarms simply do what the title suggests, they “alarm” or report that a condition exists or has occurred.

What protection did they give them? Did they prevent the condition or event from occurring?

The answer is a resounding NO! They cannot protect, because they are not designed to protect, they are designed to inform.

The advertising and marketing that many alarm companies do is an attempt to mislead unsuspecting consumers into thinking that they are genuine providers of physical protection, when they are not.

There can only be one true physical protection device. This device is known as a “Lock”.
I can cite multiple examples of situations where an alarm was activated, but the lockout prevented any condition or event from occurring. Alarms go off all the time, even falsely, and monitored alarms are often the worst because the costs associated with monitoring, patrolling, guard/police presence can reach exorbitant levels in cost…all due to one condition false report.

A lock is a physical security protection device that is the first and last line of defense for every property.

When determining security upgrades, keep in mind that often the critical ingredient for proper security is properly constructed doors, frames, and legs. I’ve seen the more expensive locks on people’s doors, however the jambs (where the door locks) are made from low grade pine or cedar softwoods. The doors are often made of steel-encased wooden materials and often survive with the locks intact, but the doorjamb has given way in an attack.

So how to prevent and protect?

Secure your door leg. there are multiple products available today to affordably and effectively protect your property from a forced entry attack.

You can still install an alarm system, if your desire is to stay informed and have paid representatives watch over you to maintain your personal safety, but remember, they can’t protect you, they can only inform you!
