Sony C905 Join Sony Ericsson’s Cybershot range

The first 8-megapixel Cybershot camera phone has now launched at O2 in the UK, the new Sony Ericsson C905 is the manufacturer’s flagship model, bringing the latest technology and features from the camera-focused Cybershot range.

The Sony C905 will be getting some unwanted company from competing manufacturers as the first batch of 8-megapixel camera phones are set to launch in the UK markets, notably the LG KC910 Renoir and Samsung M8800 Pixon models.

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cybershot phone offers an innovative 8.1 megapixel camera that is a genuine alternative to a digital camera. The camera includes top-notch features such as a xenon flash, autofocus face detection and image stabilizer to name just a few. Users can make videos of their friends and family with the video recording feature. It even has a video stabilizer and video light. When users are done taking photos and videos, they can quickly upload them to their blog for all to see.

The C905 has a Wi-Fi antenna, and Sony is also increasing its ability to automatically network with other components, such as a PlayStation 3, Bravia TV or Vaio laptop, using the DLNA standard. DLNA, or Digital Living Network Alliance, is a set of interoperability protocols designed to ensure that various electronic devices can easily connect to each other without complicated configuration or servers. Its backers include consumer electronics giants like Sony, Philips and Toshiba, as well as mobile phone companies like Nokia, LG, Motorola and, obviously, Sony Ericsson.

The media player comes with FM radio, TrackID, Album Art and Play Now, to make your music experience much smoother. The Sony Ericsson C905 also comes complete with a range of built-in games and is Java-enabled so users can play games to their heart’s content on those long drives or nights at home.

For the internet user, the Sony C905 is an Access NetFront web browser, WAP 1.2.1, WAP 2.0 XHTML and web fonts, so owners of this phone will never be without the internet. The Sony Ericsson C905 is a super stylish phone that comes in a variety of colours; Night Black, Ice Silver and Copper Gold, the first being the black edition. A contemporary phone with all the necessary features and more.

The C905 is the first Cyber-shot to be equipped with assisted GPS, which is more responsive than the dreary GPS in the early Nokia N95 and Sony Ericsson W760i. Like the recently launched iPhone 3G, the Sony Ericsson C905 will also support photo geotagging out of the box.

All of this technology has been packed into a case that measures just 104 x 49 x 18mm, which is more in line with other models currently available and weighing 136g isn’t too much for a phone of this stature either.

There’s no mistaking the design though, as the keyboard, brushed lens cover, and smooth rounded edges of the case all look sleek and in keeping with a high-end phone. The launch of the C905 hasn’t come soon enough, as this is one of the most exciting phones Sony Ericsson has released in a long time.

Although initially launched at O2’s paid monthly contract rates, the C905 is expected to be picked up by other UK network operators and retailers in the coming days, the Sony C905 will also be available as a SIM-free phone as well as in the Pay As You Go payment scheme.
