Did someone just hack my thermometer?

I don’t like to complain (except on certain occasions when no one is listening) but I’m not very happy with the weather these days. I have never felt so cold before.

Is it true that the older you get, the less cold you can bear?

If it’s not true, it sure is for me. The older I get the colder I get and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. After all, how many sweaters can you wear at once?

The other day, while looking at my thermometer, I saw that it had fallen below my meteorological expectations. I tried breathing with the thermometer to see if I could make the temperature go up a bit. And, because my breath is so hot, I was able to turn the temperature up a bit, but as soon as I stopped breathing, it plunged back into its depth.

It seems that when I look at the thermometer and the temperature is low I feel cold. On the other hand, when the temperature is high, I feel hot. I almost said hot, but the kind lady of the parsonage corrected that to me once. It may be hot, but according to her, I’m sure I’m not hot and the mirror in my bathroom contributes to her opinion.

So I wonder if the temperature has something to do with my thermometer. If someone, by chance, could manipulate my thermometer, it could manipulate whether I am hot or cold.

Then a thought hit me square in the face.

Throughout the past year, I have heard how Russians allegedly hacked emails. I never really paid that much attention to stories, but now I think a little differently about it.

Anyone who wants to can hack into my emails because I have such a boring life that they would probably skyrocket. However, what if they could hack my thermometer? That’s the $ 64,000 question!

I confess that I am not very tech savvy. I can barely manage my emails; So when it comes to technology, I’m just as vulnerable as anyone else.

I’m certainly not afraid of someone hacking into my bank account because they would find it completely empty. Thinking about it, maybe someone is hacking into my bank account and taking all my money. If anyone is, I don’t imagine it’s me. Maybe I should talk to my banker just to see if something suspicious happens.

A couple of weeks ago when my wife wanted to use her bank credit card, it was rejected. He contacted his bank and discovered that someone had hacked into his account and bought something for $ 2,500 on the West Coast.

What bothered me was that I didn’t know that she had so much money in her account. Maybe you should research what it takes to hack someone’s bank account!

Anyway, the bank took care of that and she was not in a hurry for that money.

This just goes to show that if someone wants to enter someone’s bank account, they would surely choose it over me.

However, what if these Russians, or whoever they are, can hack into my thermometer? What if they can hack and manipulate my thermometer to make it look colder than it actually is?

If this is true, where should I report it?

What pitiful soul would do something like this?

This has been worrying me for over a week and I’m just as cold today as when I started to worry about this. Why can’t they hack into my thermometer and turn the temperature up to make me feel hotter?

Out of deep frustration, I presented my theory to my wife, hoping that she would have a little sympathy for me.

“Are you really that crazy?” He said sarcastically. Why the hell would you think someone could hack your thermometer? Then he gave me one of his sarcastic smiles and went back to the kitchen.

I was still in my chair thinking about all that. What if I am crazy? That’s too bad? From my point of view, crazy people are the only ones who don’t know they are crazy. Maybe I’m really crazy. But if I’m crazy, to paraphrase an old philosopher, I’m in good company. Those crazy people really make a difference in this world.

Think of Thomas Edison when he told someone he was going to invent the electric light bulb. I wonder how many people thought he was crazy.

Can you imagine what his wife must have said? “Oh Tommy, what the hell does someone want with a light bulb? That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.”

If Thomas Edison was crazy, I’m sure I’m happy to join his ranks. And there are other crazy people throughout history.

My problem, like many people, I judge things by their appearance and, as we all know, appearances can be deceiving.

I think a good word from Jesus helps me here. “Judge not according to appearances, but judge with just judgment” (John 7:24).

Appearances can be deceiving because sometimes what I am looking at is not exactly what I am seeing.
