big german shepherds

Through breeding experiments, breeders have been able to create variations of the German Shepherd. Such experiments gave way to new types of German Shepherd dogs, one of which is the White German Shepherd. But despite these great results, there are some people who want to stick to their roots by breeding old-style German Shepherds that are bigger than your usual German Shepherd. These purists argue that although these experiments may produce German Shepherds with special attributes, the qualities that gave the breed its reputation, such as intelligence, may disappear.

The Different Lines of German Shepherds

For those who know nothing about German Shepherds, they may think that all these dogs are one and the same. They are not. In fact, there are many lines of this breed and the old style is just one of them. Each line was created for a specific purpose and these are:

– International line of work. This line of German Shepherds is bred primarily for working traits rather than looks. Because of this, the appearance of these dogs may differ.

– International exhibition line. This line was designed for breeders looking for the dog’s appearance rather than its working traits.

– North American show lines. This line was also designed more for the look of the dog but with certain variations. These include sloped backs and sharper angles. There are now debates as to whether this line should be considered an entirely different breed of dog. But the breeders of this line argue that although there are great changes in the appearance of the dog, the working attributes have not changed.

Appearance

In addition to the lines mentioned above, there is also another line that is called the Old-Style German Shepherd. The goal of the breeders of this line is simply to get the German Shepherds back to the way they were before. His goal is to produce a line of dogs that look and act just like their earliest ancestors. The Old Style German Shepherd differs from the regular German Shepherd simply because of its size. A normal German Shepherd is about 24 to 26 inches tall. Old-style German Shepherds dwarf them by an additional four inches. So an old style German Shepherd is about 30 inches tall and would weigh about 124 pounds. gold 54 kg. Although the facial features are the same as normal German Shepherds, older-style dogs have larger heads. The other physical attributes of this type of breed include a straighter back, large bones, and no extreme angulations in the legs, giving it a more balanced, noble appearance.
