Basic principles to find winners in races

Supporting winners in horse racing doesn’t have to be painstaking exercise, especially with the internet, which makes researching the form much easier than it used to be. Just by clicking on the horse’s name, its race record will appear on any of the major racing sites. It is here that you will find horses that are well positioned to win compared to their recent starts. They may have fallen on a slope or with less weight than in recent starts, or whatever. You can access this information in seconds. Here, instead of telling you what to do, I’ll tell you that I selected and supported some of the winners as an example.

Ruby Row was a horse that I regressed first after a stint at Riccarton in March. He signed up for a 10K race, which is the first time he has participated in a race of less than 20K. As a previous field and distance winner and with an excellent record coming out of layoff, I backed her up and she won by paying $ 6

He then raced against better company in his next three or four races, but in May he raced in a midweek event at Ashburton. I bet her again and she won by paying $ 13

At Royal Ascot I supported Coronet in one of the three Group races. He had finished without placing in his two starts this current season at Group One company, but was undefeated in two starts when he was two years old. In other words, it had never been beaten in races lower than group one. Coronet duly won on 9/1

In July, a well-priced winner that I supported was Whatwedo in Wanganui. He had ended up on the Hastings track just five days earlier. That race was at 1400 meters and now he’s back to his favorite distance of 1200 meters. He was also competing on his favorite field this time where he had won twice before. His record at Hastings, where he last raced, was poor. Whatwedo won by paying $ 13.50 but I got 25/1 starting odds on him.

A promising horse in winning shape is always a good bet and one of those winners I supported was Rawmaterial at Riccarton. He had won three of eight starts, won his most recent race and was not carrying more weight than in his last race. I supported him and he won on 8/1. There are many horses of this type that win and they are not difficult to spot.
