Closing the gaps

Biden may have won the presidency, but his cohorts in the DNC could not bridge the gaps in the deep divisions that exist in our nation. As for the Trump presidency, only a deep seeded need to feed his ego through distortion and deviation that has permeated much of the nation’s consciousness has sparked storms of unrest across America. Collateral damage not only from the last 4 years of the Trump Administration, but also from the previous ones and the policies that emerged from Washington over the last 50 years have systematically eroded our society.

Once innocence is taken, it can never be restored. It is in that light that the America we have today is so far from being the country of the greatest generation, where the pride of our country was shown, and the respect of our country will be almost impossible to recover. We now have a newly elected president and vice president whose ties are so well connected to the status quo of big money interests that it adds to the dilemma facing our nation today.

Voter turnout from these past elections was just one vote against one man’s assessment of the way he wants things to be and not for mandates that would lift this nation out of the deep recesses of past failures. . Whether we choose to accept it or not, the global crisis of this pandemic has brought the world’s economies to virtual stagnation. Europe today faces an unprecedented economic and health crisis that is having profound effects right here in the US.

If President-elect Biden wants to avoid another Great Depression and I mean economic Armageddon, there are no options but fundamental reforms that must be implemented now. Congress must agree to an immediate stimulus package with monthly stimulus checks of $ 1,200 for the next six months. The world does not have to stop spinning to exterminate this pandemic. But what we must do is respect certain security measures to contain the spread of any infectious disease. We have to realize that to avoid imminent medical and economic catastrophe there must be cohesion within our society. And, from the point of view of things after these past elections, this nation is far from cohesive.

Now, Biden must convince the main power players of the media to be given the arduous task of educating and informing the general public about the necessary procedures that the public must follow and the policies that our government will invoke to ensure may our society not dissolve into anarchy. Remembering FDR’s home talks: well, Biden would do well to use the medium of television and the internet to replicate what FDR did in addressing the nation on a regular basis to congratulate our recovery from this pandemic and closing the divisions in our nation. As it stands today, we have forgotten Lincoln’s famous quote: “A nation divided against itself cannot stand.” And that is the reality we face today as a divided nation.

If Trump wants to avoid the condemnation of history, he must first accept with grace, dignity and congratulations the results of this past election. In true sincerity, you must work with your president-elect to close the great gaps in our nation today. If it can only do that, then perhaps this nation can heal the wounds it has that are preventing our society from fulfilling the great promise of an America that works for all people. Our future is at stake.
