All about the Bichon Frize puppy

After months and months of trying to figure out what kind of puppy you want and which types are the cutest, you’ve finally decided to bring home a Bichon Frize puppy and have your heart set on one in particular. But knowing exactly what you’re getting into is extremely important. This dog has a mind of his own and will try to test you from time to time to see what he can and can’t get away with, just like a toddler.

Their stubbornness is something that will stay with them for their entire lives, even after they become adult dogs, so you better be prepared to handle it. Bichon Frize puppies are cute, of course, but they take a lot of work to make them a great addition to the house and one that no one will regret.

The one thing that commonly makes people turn and run the other way when considering adopting a Bichon Frize puppy is the fact that potty training is very difficult. Because it can take longer, there may be remains of the dog, which can actually cost you money if the carpet is destroyed. But it’s not that the dog isn’t trainable, it just takes a little longer than with most other breeds.

So when you bring your new family member home, potty training may be the first thing you want to start with. Try not to let setbacks bother you too much, as that comes naturally no matter what type of breed you are dealing with. Just give the love and support a child would need when potty training and they are on their way to a successfully potty trained dog.

Although most people would laugh at this and consider it common sense, you would be surprised how many people really need to read this. Never hit, spank, spit, yell or otherwise abuse your Bichon Frize puppy, whether emotional or physical, abuse is abuse and is against the law. Not only is it against the law, it is extremely harmful to the puppy and you will only get the opposite of what you want from the puppy when you act that way.

You want your puppy to respect you and see you as his master out of love and kindness rather than out of fear of abuse and fear of survival. If you are treating your puppy the way you would like to be treated, you will find that training sessions and tasks move much faster and perform better than if your pet is afraid of you. Think twice before speaking in anger and always try to speak to your pet in a loving way.
