No one had imagined that this girl with 90% in High School and an interest in medicine, born into a small family in India, could win Miss World in London and make the whole country proud, as well as putting the country on the world map, making it one of the most sought after countries in terms of fashion and design. She did one of her first modeling assignments when she was barely in ninth grade. She later went on to become a top model and also became very famous on the small screen thanks to an advertisement with a prominent Bollywood actor.

In 1994 she won the second prize in the Miss India pageant, then she won the Miss World pageant and then she was also crowned Miss Photogenic in London. She then was Miss World for a year. She was an excellent model and directors were trying to cast her in movies because she had a nice face and acting skills. Her first big Bollywood success came quite early in her career in the form of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, a film alongside two major Bollywood actors of the time. She won her first Filmfare Award for her work in that film.

She then did a number of roles, from a miserable girl who is very protective of her father, to the role of a Christian girl Shirley who falls for her brother enemies in Josh. She has made critically and commercially successful films such as Devdas and Mohabattein, Devdas received 10 Filmfare Awards and was the second highest grossing that year. It was also screened at the Cannes film festival, not many movies get a chance to screen there. She also won the best actress award for the same movie.

A career setback came from the years 2003-2008, where there were a number of releases from different production companies, some in English, some in Hindi and Telugu. It did not have any major commercial success, but several films were critically acclaimed. Her 7 minute dance sequence Kajra Re in the movie Bunty aur Bubli made Aishwarya Rai photos and Aishwarya Rai videos very famous on the internet and TV screens across the country. The public loved the way he danced on this song and it was a hit on the charts for quite some time.

She has been part of a number of charities throughout her career. She has performed on stage to raise funds for tsunami victims. Also, the Bachchan family is building a school in UP and it is named after Aishwarya Rai. She has also donated generously to various such charities in and around Mumbai. She is now married to Abhishek Bachchan and lives with him at his residence in Mumbai. She is a deeply religious Hindu and gave birth to a baby girl on November 16, 2011.
